  • The Age of Pericles is the term used to define the historical period from the capture of Samos by the Athenians (439 BCE) to the defeat of the other Greek city-states at the Battle of Chaeronea (338 BCE) at the hands of the Macedonian army under Philip II of Macedon. Pericles - an Athenian general, politician and orator - distinguished himself above the other shining personalities of the era, men who excelled in politics, philosophy, architecture, sculpture, history and literature.
